Upcoming: Residency at ZK/U

OPEN DESIGN Team will be collaborating at the Center for Art and Urbanistics in Berlin

We are pleased to announce our acceptance to the residency program of the Center for Art and Urbanistics (ZK/U) in Berlin. The ZK/U is a research space focusing on the phenomena of the city, while incorporating inter- and transdisciplinary activities. The emphasis lies on an international exchange on global issues and includes local as well as international partners from the disciplines of geography, anthropology, urban planning, architecture and the humanities.

The residency program offers the opportunity for several months to focus on our ongoing projects, while collaborating and exchanging with residing participants as well as sharing our outcomes with an interested audience.

OPEN DESIGN Team is continuously researching at the intersection between science and design. Recent projects cover a variety of topics from reflective thinking, to architecture and design interventions, to product design, by incorporating methods from the fields of social and natural sciences.

To give you an insight in our ongoing projects, we are currently involved in following topics with emphasis on the city:

  • The project Urban Visions of Angelika, Ceyhun and Pablo is investigating uneven growth and its consequences in urban contexts. The developed scenarios are oriented towards a problem-solving approach and are ready to be further elaborated towards feasibility studies.
  • Another ongoing investigation is conducted as an individual work. Within her Master and PhD preparation, Angelika is focusing on the correlations between physical & digital architectures by understanding urban structures through the approach of complex systems.
  • Juan is exploring experimental and interactive decision-making models and processes. He is approaching problems that are related with competitiveness and economics within the context of the urban development.
  • The Play Diogenes by Agustina is an urban physical game that interacts with the city through the character of Diogenes of Sinope. The game’s first version invites players to shift the common perception of the urban and public spaces through experiences, activities and challenges relating to the life of the Greek philosopher.
  • Another project of Agustina and Juan in the format of a workshop aims to explore the way of how we influence the city and vice versa by experimenting with art interventions. The understanding of urban intervention in a broad sense enable us to relate to the city as fundamental actors of the dynamics of the artificial environment.

OPEN DESIGN Team is very excited to join the collaborative network of the ZK/U this year!
