Proxima Centauri b
Creating life on another planet
In August 2016 a new planet Proxima Centauri b was discovered by the European Southern Observatory. The particular conditions of this planet allowed scientist to research and speculate about the potential of this exoplanet.
The first stage of the project has been realized in the frame of a two weeks interdisciplinary workshop in November 2016. The students of the Master Program Open Design directed by Dr. Ing. Khashayar Razghandi and Prof. Dr. Or Ettlinger, carried out an incremental day-by-day growth process by building up complexity and life forms on the planet Proxima Centauri b, pertaining to the basics of material science, engineering and evolutionary biology as well as applying design strategies based on the theory of Christopher Alexander in 'The Nature of Order'.
The outcome resulted in an exhibition of the planet with proposals for climate, landscape, life forms and interactions at the Cluster of Excellence [Image-Knowledge-Gestaltung] of Humboldt University of Berlin in Germany.
